&lt;p&gt;A common use case is to allow top-level pages to use the &lt;code&gt;docs&lt;/code&gt; layout but for which it doesn&amp;rsquo;t make sense to have a left sidebar since it usually will show all pages of type &lt;code&gt;docs&lt;/code&gt; in the site.
